It’s no question right now that our dollars don’t go as far as they used to.
Inflation rates and gas prices are giving the late ‘80s a run for their money, and in some cities, a 6-figure salary can’t cut it anymore. A report released last week shared that 36% of Americans making over $100,000 per year are living paycheck to paycheck, something that would’ve been an absurd premise as recently as 5 years ago.
While some employers offer cost of living raises every year, those tend to be around 3% — nowhere near enough to offset 2022’s 8% inflation. If you didn’t get an 8% raise this year, you got a pay cut.
That said, a 2021 report from Zippia notes that the average salary increase when switching jobs is 14.8%. Just some food for thought.
